COAST GUARD FOUNDATION CELEBRATES COAST GUARD DAY

Gift Presented to Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families was honored by Coast Guard Training Center Cape May yesterday, August 3, during its third Sunset Parade of 2014.

While visiting the Training Center, the Coast Guard Foundation presented the Coast Guard with a gift of $3,000 to purchase new dugout benches for the Center’s two softball fields, as well as softball equipment such as balls, gloves and bats for the community teams. Earlier this year, the Coast Guard Foundation funded the purchase of four stand up paddleboards for Coast Guard members and their families to use. With a long history of support for the Cape May Training Facility, the Coast Guard Foundation also funded the renovation to its Bruckenthal Hall and the memorial to DC3 Nathan Bruckenthal who was killed while serving in the Iraq War, as well as stockings that were given to recruits who spent the Christmas holiday in Cape May.

“We are truly honored to be a part of last night’s Sunset Parade here in Cape May,” said Anne Brengle, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “Our mission as an organization is to provide support for all enlisted members and their families, and we are humbled by the recognition from those who are stationed and training here. As we celebrate the Coast Guard’s birthday today, August 4, we say ‘thank you’ to all those who serve and wear the uniform.”

According to the Coast Guard’s public affairs office, Sunset Parades are military displays by the Coast Guard Recruit Precision Drill Team. More than 250 recruits marched in the parade and performed complex facing and drill movements, and dangerous rifle tossing routines. At sunset, as part of the ceremony, the National Ensign was struck from the parade field.
